All Building Contractors and Remodelers are required to have at least one hour of Energy included in the 14 hours that is required every other year.  This one-hour online video course will help builders identify important considerations and then apply those principles to a specific project.

Note: We have many courses below that contain 1 or more hours of Energy Code within the course. This course is for licensees who have completed their continuing education but still need the required 1 hour of Energy Code.

Continuing Education Requirements
for Minnesota Building Officials

Continuing Education is required for Building Officials. Currently, Minnesota is transitioning from a three-year certification period to a two-year certification period and from units to hours.

The requirements are as follows:

Building Official

Three-Year: 57 Hours/24 Units
Two-Year:    38 Hours/16 Units

Building Official, Limited

Three-Year: 57 Hours/24 Units*
Two-Year:    38 Hours/16 Units*

Accessibility Specialist

Three-Year: 10 Hours/4 Units
Two-Year:      6 Hours/2 Units
*Only the Building Official, Limited category is required to obtain 19 hours per year for the 1st two years of certification. After the 1st two years, they are required to complete 38 hours for each certification period.

Units are converted to hours by dividing the unit number by .42. More information may be found on the Minnesota state website at https://www.revisor.mn.gov/rules/?id=1301.1000.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  The State of Minnesota will not allow you to take the same course twice within the same certification period or complete 2 courses on the same date.  Please check your records or call us at 1-800-727-7104 if you cannot remember which course you have already taken.

Yes

 

I also have a Construction Industry license in Minnesota, are these courses also applicable for that license as well?

Yes. To receive continuing education credit toward both licenses, simply place both license numbers, separated by a space, in the “License Number” field provided at registration.
