Continuing Education is required for Building Officials. Currently, Minnesota is transitioning from a three-year certification period to a two-year certification period and from units to hours.
The requirements are as follows:
Three-Year: 57 Hours/24 Units
Two-Year: 38 Hours/16 Units
Building Official, Limited
Three-Year: 57 Hours/24 Units*
Two-Year: 38 Hours/16 Units*
Three-Year: 10 Hours/4 Units
Two-Year: 6 Hours/2 Units
*Only the Building Official, Limited category is required to obtain 19 hours per year for the 1st two years of certification. After the 1st two years, they are required to complete 38 hours for each certification period.
Units are converted to hours by dividing the unit number by .42. More information may be found on the Minnesota state website at https://www.revisor.mn.gov/rules/?id=1301.1000.

Yes. To receive continuing education credit toward both licenses, simply place both license numbers, separated by a space, in the “License Number” field provided at registration
