Georgia Exam Prep Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to complete the courses?
  • The Contractor License Exam Prep courses take approximately 8-hours, but we move rapidly through the materials.  For a thorough review, you may want to allow twice that amount of time.
  • The NASCLA Accredited Commercial Contractor Course should take at least 24-30 hours.

Once you register, you have up to 6 months before your course is deactivated.  If you need longer, just give us a call and we can arrange an extension.

What is on the Exams?

Business and Law exam for Residential & Light Commercial Contractor

This online course prepares you for the Business and Law portion of your exam.  You will be required to take a Business/Law exam and a Trades exam for any of the license types.  You must be at least 21 years old and pre-approval from the State of Georgia is required before you take the exams.

The Business Law exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions and you will need to get 35 of the 50 questions correct.  The questions will be selected at random from a pool of over 1,000 questions.  The exam is timed and you will be allowed 120 minutes.

This course will prepare you for all topics covered on the Business/Law portion of the exam.

Georgia Residential Basic Contractor License Exam Preparation Course

The Georgia Residential Basic Contractor License is for building one and two-family or one-family townhouses not over three stories.  This course prepares you for both your Business/Law and Trades Exam.

To obtain your Residential Basic Contractor License, you will be required to pass an 80 Question Exam covering the Trades/Practices topics.  You will need to get 56 (70%) of the 80 questions correct.  The questions will be selected at random from a pool of over 1,000 questions. You will be allowed 200 minutes to complete this exam.

This course will prepare you for all topics covered on the Trades/Practices portion of the exam:

  • Sitework, Footings, and Foundations - 8 questions
  • Concrete and Concrete Reinforcement - 8 questions
  • Masonry - 5 questions

The Georgia Residential-Light Commercial License is for building one and two-family or one-family townhouses not over three stories high, PLUS multi-family or multi-use light commercial buildings or structures and accessory buildings for Commercial Contractors.  This work requires specific licensing for that area.  This course prepares you for both your Business/Law and Trades Exam.

To obtain your Residential-Light Commercial Contractor License, you will be required to pass an 90 Question Exam covering the Trades/Practices topics.  You will need to get 63 (70%) of the 90 questions correct.  The questions will be selected at random from a pool of over 1,000 questions. You will be allowed 230 minutes to complete this exam.

This course will prepare you for all topics covered on the Trades/Practices portion of the exam:

Yes! 

When you pass the NASCLA Accredited Examination for Commercial General Building Contractors, you will be listed in the NASCLA National Examination Database. This NASCLA course is for Commercial General Contractors and is accepted in AL, AR, GA, LA, MS, NV, NC, OR, SC, TN, UT, US Virgin Islands, VA, and WV. You may also need to take each states’ specific business/law/project management exam in addition to the NASCLA exam.
