If you are a building contractor, electrical contractor, plumbing contractor, HVAC contractor, highway or heavy equipment contractor or any specialty that does not fall into one of these categories, you must complete a State-approved 8-hour basic business course to get licensed.
This 8-Hour online study course accomplishes two objectives: it will fulfill the 8-hour Contractor Basic Business course required by the Commonwealth, and it will prepare you for the Virginia Part 1, General Part 2 (for Class B License) and Advanced Part 3 (for Class A License) portions of exam.

Virginia Class A/B Contractor Exam Preparation
(only $159 including a Carpentry and Building Construction text book $75 value). This course prepares general contractors or framing contractors for the Technical (Part 4) portion of the exam.
This course is also approved for Remedial Education.
NOTE: You are allowed to take the following books with you when taking the Building Technical Exam through PSI: International Residential Code Book 2009, Carpentry and Building Construction and the Builders Technical Supplement.

How to acquire your Virginia Contractors License?
According to the Virginia Code, contractor licenses are issued to businesses (regardless of the number of employees) and not individuals. You may conduct business as a Sole Proprietor. The following are the steps to obtain your Virginia Contractors license:
- Successfully complete the 8-hour Virginia Contractor Basic Business course available through an approved provider.
- Successfully PASS the 4-part contractors exam that measures your knowledge of the profession.
- Obtain a Contractors License application from the Department
of Professional and Occupational Regulation:

- Submit the Contractors License application and supporting
documents to the Virginia Department of Professional and
Occupational Regulation. You will need to include a check or
money order made payable to the Treasurer of Virginia for the
following amounts:
Class A - $385
Class B - $370
Class C - $235
