License Renewal Courses for Contractors, Plumbers and Electricians

The Builders License Training Institute is proud to present four online courses that are approved by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.  All of our courses are easy to understand and extremely flexible.  You have immediate access to the course as soon as you purchase it below and you can come and go as you please.  You will learn a great deal about each topic while enjoying the flexibility of the builder-friendly format.

Once you complete the course, our office is automatically notified by email.  We submit course completions daily to the DOPL.  It takes 24-48 business hours for results to show up on the  DOPL web site.  We also provide you a Certificate of Completion for your records.  It's that easy!

How many hours of continuing education do I need to complete?

Contractors Six hours each licensing cycle, three of which must be "Core" courses and the other three may be either "Professional" or "Core".  Licensing Cycle ends November 30 of odd years (2011, 2013, 2015...)
Plumbers Sixteen hours of Continuing Education each licensing period.  Twelve hours must be "Core" education and the remaining four can be "Professional" or "Core" related.  Licensing Cycle ends November 30th of even years (2012, 2014, 2016. . . )
Electricians Sixteen hours of Continuing Education each licensing period.  Twelve hours must be "Core" education and the remaining four can be "Professional" or "Core" related  Licensing Cycle ends November 30th of even years (2012, 2014, 2016...)

What happens if I don't complete my required continued education by November 30th?
You can still renew your license, but not until you complete the required education.   If you are less than 30 days late, you will be charged a $20 late fee.  If you are over 30 days late, you will be charged a $100 late fee.  You can also submit a Extension Form with $100 that will push your education deadline out until January 31, 2012.  Click here to view and print the form:  http://dopl.utah.gov/licensing/forms/Stipulation_for_Extension.pdf

Course is a review of the safety codes required for residential construction.  You will learn the basic components of construction safety and be able to recognize hazards on a construction jobsite, as well as ways to prevent those hazards.  You will learn the responsibilities of employers and the employees in observing established safety practices.

Course describes building features and equipment systems as they pertain to Utah energy codes, and helps recognize how these codes can ultimately reduce and conserve energy consumption.  Project Management portion focuses on the primary responsibilities of managing costs, while completing the project to the expected degree of quality.

What To Expect with our Courses

Online access is immediate and you can come and go as you wish.  You are not timed and if you leave the course, when you return you will be taken right back to the spot you left off. 

Each chapter in the course has a short multiple-choice quiz at the end.  Passing each quiz moves you onto the next chapter.  Our courses do not allow you to fail the quiz.  Once you achieve 70% on the quiz, you will move on to the next chapter.  It's that easy!  There is no need to spend time and money going to a classroom.

Upon completion of the course, you will be sent an email with your results and you will be able to print your Certificate of Completion for your files.
