If you received your initial license before January 1, 2009, you are only required to complete the 3-Hour Code/Law/Safety course to renew your license.

If you were licensed after 1/1/09, you must complete a minimum of 3 hours of Continuing Competency per year, but must have 21 hours completed by your third year anniversary of when you received your licensed.  This is 3 years from when you passed the State exam.

Increased Penalties -- Effective December 21, 2007, penalties were increased for a person practicing as a Residential Builder or M&A Contractor without a license:
First Offense -- Misdemeanor with a  fine of $5000 to $25,000, or prison for not more than 1 year, or both.
Second and Subsequent Offenses -- Misdemeanor with a fine of $5000 to $25,000, or prison for not more than 2 years, or both.
