The EPA Deadlines have passed. What
does this mean?
This means that if you are working on
pre-1978 homes or child-occupied facilities and you have not
gotten Certified as a Lead Paint Renovator, you could get busted
and fined up to $37,500.00. We know this sounds a bit
extreme, but the EPA has drawn a hard line to get their point
across. It is not too late to take an EPA-Approved Course.
EPA Law Effective 4/22/10
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a new Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting rule (RRP) last April. The rule requires firms and individuals involved in interior and exterior renovation repair and painting to be certified by April 2010 and that they follow specific lead-safe work practices to minimize exposure to lead-based paint dust.
Under the rule, beginning in April 2010, contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. For most individuals, eight hours of training is required. However, individuals who have successfully completed renovation courses developed by HUD or EPA, or an abatement worker or supervisor course accredited by EPA or an authorized State or Tribal program, can become certified renovators by taking a four hour EPA-accredited renovator refresher training
The Builders License Training Institute has been approved by the EPA to teach this 8-Hour Lead Paint Safety Course. The cost of our course ranges from $159/student to $189/student, depending on the location and venue of the course. We work hard to keep our prices as competitive as possible. The cost is higher in some locations because we will be incurring travel costs for the instructor or higher classroom charges. The cost includes all course materials and students receive their color Certificate of Completion at the end of the day. Upon completion of this course, students are certified as a "Renovator".
The Builders License Training Institute takes great pride in following all rules and standards provided by the EPA so there is no chance our students will have their certification rescinded due to poor training. It is imperative that the classes provide no less than one instructor for every six to ten students. If these guidelines are not being followed, the student certification may be at risk.
